Our approach

We always approach the animals in a gentle way. We try to adjust to the given situation and activities of the animals, and always steer the boat according to their behaviour. We avoid any disturbance to the animals, and try to observe how they act naturally. Only this way can we ensure a respectful way to observe them and reduce disturbance to a minimum.

For some time, we can witness their behaviour, but as soon as they communicate to us that we are not welcome anymore, it is time for our boat to move on. This way, it is actually the whales who decide about the encounters and their duration. We are certain that it is only this way that we can keep these fascinating marine creatures around and observe them in the long run.

If the animals feel harassed or followed, the result would inevitably be that they would avoid Madeiran waters, and choose other regions. To avoid such mistakes, there are intland national regs. Some are laws and some are not. We comply with them and respect all the regs and codes that benefit and protect the marine life. Our long years of experience with these marine mammals also helps us in this undertaking.
