19.01.2018 – No Interference
With a possible drone deployment from one of our guests on board, STENELLA headed to one of the sighting areas located by the spotter. As we arrived at the scene it was easily perceptable that the small group of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) were in a hunting mode, by sweeping the Ocean surface towards East. A situation that forced us to stay at the rear of the group, so we could not interfere with the chase. Shortly after heading towards a new sighting location, we identified a small group of Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis), that coincidently were also hunting at surface at a high pace, forcing us to adopt the same sighting approach. Not many pictures or close sightings were possible but for the better sake of the dolphins this was the only and correct approach possible. Consequently the drone deployment was not possible but as we usually say “the best pictures are the ones that stay in our head”….
