12.08.2017 – Oceanic vastness
The Ocean can sometimes be unlimited, vast and deep. In it, there is plenty of space to make yourself visible and unfortunately also invisible. Visible for us today were the atlantic spotted dolphins on two trips. At the afternoon tour they were rushing through the water in order to snatch as many delicacies as possible. The “table in the sea” is not as well laid as in former times, due to global overfishing. Sometimes marine mammals as well as other species on the top of the marine foodweb like tunafish, swordfish, sharks and others have to cover large distances in order to find enough food. If its then in front of their mouth, its important to eat as much as possible. They never can be sure, when there is more fresh supply. Dolphins swallow their prey immediately. One fish after the other, without chewing.
On our late morning tour unfortunatley, the marine mammals remained -despite of intensive search- invisible. Even the littly loggerhead sea-turtle dove down before we could get close. So nature is offering us many treasures and gifts, sometimes more, sometimes less. It is not always easy to accept this.
